Blue Hills Ski Area

COVID-19 Response 

Blue Hills Ski Area will be implementing new policies and procedures to align with local, state, federal, and industry reopening guidelines and regulations. We appreciate your patience during this time, please see the FAQ below to get an idea of how things will be changing at the ski area this winter. 

  • General:

    • Do I need to wear a face mask? ​

      • Yes, face coverings will be required for all guests and employees of the ski area in accordance with current state law.

    • Will there be social distancing at the ski area?

      • Yes, Blue Hills Ski Area will be posting signage ​to remind guests to stay six feet apart at all times. Blue Hills Ski Area will also be installing directional markings and physical barriers to aid with social distancing. 

    • Will Blue Hills Ski Area be increasing cleaning/disinfecting practices?

      • Yes, Blue Hills Ski Area is hiring additional cleaners to ensure we are cleaning and disinfecting all common touch points frequently in accordance with state/local guidelines. 

    • Will indoor capacity be reduced?

      • Yes, both the Lodge and Rental Buildings will have a significantly reduced capacity for the upcoming season. We ask that everyone get ready at their vehicles prior to heading up to the base area as storage will be limited. 

  • Food Service:

    • Are reservations required for table seating? ​

      • Reservations will not be required for indoor dining at the Freeman Canteen, seating will be available on a first come basis. We will still be serving all of your Blue Hills favorites in a quick service fashion!​

    • Are you expanding Food Service offerings?

      • Yes, we have installed a new Freeman Canteen "To Go" Window on the front side of the lodge. Individuals that do not have a reservation will be able to grab food to go here. ​

    • Will there be outdoor seating?

      • Yes, the ski area has increased the number of picnic tables and benches throughout the property. ​

  • Lifts:

    • Will I be required to ride the chairlift with someone outside of my group?​

      • No. Blue Hills Ski Area will allow individuals to self-group and is asking those that traveled together to ride the chairlift together. Individuals skiing/riding alone will be allowed to ride the lift as a single rider. 

    • Do I need to wear my face mask to the lift?

      • Yes. Lift queues will ​be redesigned to assist with social distancing but all customers must wear face masks on the property.

    • Do I need to purchase my lift ticket ahead of time?​

      • Yes, we are encouraging guests of the ski area to purchase their passes online prior to arrival.

  • Lessons:

    • Are you adjusting class sizes?​

      • Yes, we have reduced the instructor to student ratio across all of our group-style classes including multi-week programs. ​

    • Will classes be socially distanced?

      • Yes, ​Blue Hills will be staggering lesson start times to aid in social distancing. 

    • Do I need a reservation?

      • Reservations for lessons are always recommended. ​

  • Multi-Week Programs:

    • Are all of your programs staying the same?​

      • Our Snow Puppy program will be changing from two 3-week sessions to one 5-week session. The Junior program will remain one 5-week session.​

    • How will you follow social distancing protocol?

      • We will be staggering start times across all programming to allow for social distancing and reduce congestion in the base area.​

    • Will you be lowering participants?

      • Yes, this season we will have lower Instructor to Student Ratios. In the Snow Puppy program, we will have up to 6 participants per instructor. In the Junior Program, we will have up to 10 participants per instructor. ​

    • Are there any other changes we should expect with programs?

      • Yes, along with general changes throughout the ski area programs will be "cohort style" meaning our goal is to keep the same instructor with the same group of students each week of the program. A formal check-in process will be implemented prior to the start of each lesson where we will confirm a daily health attestation has been completed. 

  • Rentals:

    • Do I need to purchase my rentals ahead of time? ​

      • Yes, we are encouraging guests of the ski area to purchase their rentals prior to arrival. ​

    • Is the equipment being cleaned?

      • Yes, all equipment is being cleaned and sanitized in accordance with state and industry guidance.​

  • Parking:

    • Will the shuttle be running to the satellite lots?​

      • Yes, the shuttle will continue to run to the satellite lots. However, there will be increased demand for the shuttle bus this season due to decreased shuttle capacity. We ask that guests traveling in groups drop-off their party at Lot One before proceeding to one of the satellite lots to reduce the number of individuals traveling by shuttle.
